Take a Glance at the Past ~ I am one of those people who have to be dragged kicking and screaming to embrace new technology or new ways of doing things.
Rewind to 1985 ~ My brother’s second job out of college was selling these bizarre machines that claimed they could send paper across the phone lines! Who would ever use such a thing but more importantly, who would NEED to? This was my thinking at the time, but what the heck, my brother saw something there. 3 years later, not only were people using this contraption, people doing business HAD to embrace, buy and use that contraption called the Fax Machine. Guess who was laughing all the way to the bank??
Fast forward to 1995 ~ at my first job out of college, my boss hooked up the internet and started using email ~ WHAT?? Who needs that, I thought. Now this archaic thought process was coming from someone who was doing off-line video editing as a career so it wasn’t like I was technically challenged! I just didn’t see the point (or didn’t want to). I swore I would continue to hand write letters to friends and family (I had moved away from all of them) and send them via Snail Mail because I WAS NOT going to use email, PERIOD! You can guess how that played out.
How about Cable TV ~ “Who the heck is going to pay for TV when you can get it for free” I remember my mother saying. And then there was the mighty Cell Phone ~ need I say more?
Fast forward to today ~ all those missed opportunities. As the years have passed, I’ve often wondered how people had the vision to embrace these new technologies before everyone else even “got it”. And I often wondered what it would be like to get in on the ground floor of the “next big thing”.
Take a Glance at the Future ~ Did you know there are over 1 Billion people across the world online? Did you also know that over 60 Billion emails are sent every day? Not surprising since it’s the way people communicate in work and in their personal lives. Now, pay attention to this ~ today there are over 1 Billion Videos viewed online and that number is growing at a staggering rate. So, if there are over 60 Billion emails sent per day and someone came to you and said “all those TEXT emails being sent will turn into VIDEO emails within the next 1-2 years, what would you say? Would you poo-poo it? I know I did plenty of that myself in the past.
BUT not this time! It has finally happened for me. I am AHEAD of the time and ahead of the trend and in the future, will be able to say that I had the “Vision” to see the upcoming Streaming Video revolution AND I took ACTION!
